Who is Lynne A. Grillmair?
Brisco artist Lynne Grillmair was born in Vancouver in 1947 and grew up in the Fraser Valley, where she attended school in Mission BC. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at UBC in 1969, doing studio work under the direction of Tony Only and B.C. Binning. She worked as a chef in the Bugaboo ski lodge for 20 years, and published a cookbook Gourmet in Paradise in 1987. She exhibited her work locally at Myrtles and Strands (restaurants in Invermere) during the 1980s and 90s. Fortunately, an unexpected early retirement enabled her, with the encouragement of her father and husband, to pursue a career in painting.
In 1991-92 Lynne attended the Alberta College of Art. In 1995 and 1996 she took workshops with Jack Reid and Treva Burton. She started painting full-time in 1996, embarking on an artistic journey which encourages experimentation rather than production. Lynne’s work explores a great variety of ideas, themes, and mediums.
Her work has been exhibited at Pynelogs Gallery many times over the years, and featured also at juried shows in Fernie, Kimberley, Golden, Cranbrook, Canmore, Courtney, Calgary, and Vancouver.
In 2003, after being an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists since 1997, she received Associate Signature Status AFCA. She is also a member of the International Society of Experimental Artists. Her works can be found in private collections in the US, Europe, Japan, and Australia, as well as locally.
